In professional football, Damar Romeyelle Hamlin, also known as Damar Hamlin, plays safety for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League. He weighs 91 kg and is 1.85 meters tall. He was born on March 24, 1998, in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, in the United States. While attending Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School, he participated in football. He was recognized as the Class AAAA Defensive Player of the Year and first team All-State.

After graduating from high school, he enrolled in the University of Pittsburgh, where he played NCAA football for the Pittsburgh Panthers team. He played in three games prior to getting hurt and redshirting as a freshman. As a redshirt freshman, he played in nine games and recorded 41 tackles in addition to one. As a redshirt sophomore with the Panthers, Hamlin recorded 90 tackles and two interceptions, earning honorable mention All-Atlantic Coast Conference recognition (ACC).

He had 84 tackles and 10 pass interceptions as a junior redshirt. He was chosen as team captain going into his last year. He was selected for the ACC second team after leading the team with 67 tackles and intercepting seven passes. Hamlin was taken by the Buffalo Bills in the sixth round, 212th overall, of the 2021 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year rookie contract with the Buffalo Bills on May 21, 2021
