The Austin American-Statesman named him to the second team all-Central Texas and the first team all-14-4A district teams. Fields recorded 101 tackles, four interceptions, and eight forced fumbles in his senior season.

Fields made a Texas Tech commitment. He redshirted and did not participate as a freshman in 2016, instead joining the scout team.



He played in all 13 games as a cornerback starter in 2017. He finished fifth on the team with a total of 51 tackles, two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, and one interception. His erroneous recovery.

Three Texas Tech players were selected to attend the NFL Combine, including him. With 224 total tackles, 13.5 for loss, 4 forced fumbles and 4 recoveries, 4 interceptions, and 45 total passes defended by the end of his college career, Fields had a strong finish.

He was the first person in his family to earn a college degree.
