At the College of Southern Idaho and at Washington State University, he played college baseball after graduating from Twin Falls High School in Idaho.

The Philadelphia Phillies selected him in the 18th round of the 2017 MLB draft. With the Williamsport Crosscutters, Jones made his professional debut, finishing 2–3 with a 4.85 ERA in 26 bullpen innings.

He appeared in 23 games for the Lakewood BlueClaws in 2018, going 10–7 with a 3.41 ERA (22 starts). A Florida State League All-Star with the Clearwater Threshers, Jones began 2019 with the Reading Fighting Phils and then the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.

Jones compiled a 5-4 record with a 2.91 ERA and 152 strikeouts in 114+1/3 innings in 23 starts for the three teams.

After the 2020 season, the Phillies signed Jones to a 40-man roster spot. Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the minor league season was canceled in 2020, and he was unable to participate in any minor league games.

Jones made his major league debut after being called up to the big leagues for the first time. As soon as the day after he was optioned, he was gone.
