At Appleton West High School in Appleton, Wisconsin, Jansen participated in high school baseball. He intended to play college baseball at Jacksonville University after high school, but the Blue Jays selected him in the 16th round of the 2013 MLB draft instead.
Rather than enrolling in college, he opted to sign with the Blue Jays. That year, he made his professional debut with the Blue Jays of the Gulf Coast League’s Rookie Division.
