Darius Slay, an American cornerback, plays for the National Football League’s Philadelphia Eagles. In his native Brunswick, Georgia, he played running back and defensive back for Brunswick High School. Defensive back All-State honors from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution were given to him following his senior year, and he was also chosen for the Georgia North-South All-Star Game.
He ran for more than 1,300 yards and 15 touchdowns in the 2008 campaign. He also intercepted six passes, returning two of them for scores. His junior season was cut short by a torn medial collateral ligament after he had rushed for 336 yards and six touchdowns in five games. As a sophomore, he ran for 1,127 yards on 142 carries while scoring 13.
Before moving to Mississippi State University in 2011, he attended Itawamba Community College. He received First-team Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region 23 honors during his first year at ICC. After graduating from ICC, he played football for the Mississippi State Bulldogs under head coach Dan Mullen.
He recorded 64 tackles, six interceptions, and two touchdowns in his two seasons at Mississippi State. He was expected to be drafted in the second or third round after graduating from Mississippi State. Slay was taken by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in March 2020, where he inked a three-year, $50 million contract with $30 million in guaranteed money.
