David Andrews Age: How Old Is David Andrews?

James David Andrews, a center for the National Football League’s New England Patriots, was born on July 10, 1992. At Georgia, he played collegiate football. Dan Reeves, a former head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, the Denver Broncos, and the Dallas Cowboys, was his uncle.

Andrews was not selected in the 2015 NFL Draft, but on May 8, 2015, he signed a free agent contract with the New England Patriots. Due to the injuries to starting center Bryan Stork and backup center/guard Ryan Wendell, he played more preseason games than was anticipated and shone out at Patriot training camp.

After Stork was placed on injured reserve with the option to return and Wendell was inactive, Andrews was added to the Patriots’ 53-man roster for the 2015 season and started at center against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1. Andrews played every snap in the first half of the season, starting every game through Week 10.

Andrews placed in the top two in the fan vote for the position despite not being chosen for the 2016 Pro Bowl. Andrews received a performance-based pay incentive of $237,427.11 in 2015, the second-highest of any Patriot, as a result of his high snap count and cheap salary (after cornerback Malcolm Butler).

Bryan Stork competed with Andrews for the starting center position in 2016, but Andrews ultimately prevailed, forcing Stork to be let go by the team. On an offensive line that helped the Patriots to a 14-2 record, he started each of the team’s 16 regular-season contests. The Patriots were behind 28-3 late in the third quarter of Super Bowl LI against the Atlanta Falcons, the first overtime game and the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history. Andrews started the game, and the Patriots came back to win 34-28.

Andrews extended his deal with the Patriots for three years through the 2020 campaign on May 12, 2017. The contract has a basic value of $9.6 million, a signing bonus of $1.6 million, and incentives of an extra $2.1 million. Andrews received his first-ever promotion to Patriots captain on September 5, 2017. For the Patriots, Andrews started 17 out of 19 contests, including their Super Bowl LII defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles.

For the Patriots in 2018, Andrews once again started all 16 games at center. After the Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs, Andrews assisted them in making it to their third consecutive Super Bowl appearance. In Super Bowl LIII, they defeated the Los Angeles Rams by a score of 13-3. Andrews recovered a fumble during the triumph.

Andrews’ 2019 season is at risk after it was discovered that he has a pulmonary embolism on August 26, 2019. On August 31, 2019, he was put on season-ending injured reserve.

After missing all of 2019, Andrews rejoined the Patriots’ starting lineup in 2020. After having surgery on his thumb, he was put on injured reserve on September 26, 2020. He started working on October 24.

Andrews re-signed with the Patriots on a four-year contract on March 22, 2021.
