Standing at a height of 1.9 meters, James David Andrews, who was born on July 10, 1992, plays center for the National Football League’s New England Patriots. In college, he played football for Georgia.  His uncle was Dan Reeves, a former head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, the Denver Broncos, and the Dallas Cowboys.

Despite going undrafted in the 2015 NFL Draft, Andrews signed a free agent contract with the New England Patriots on May 8, 2015. Due to the injuries to starter center Bryan Stork and backup center/guard Ryan Wendell, he played more than expected during the preseason and started every game. He also made an impression during Patriot training camp.

In Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Andrews started at center after Stork was placed on injured reserve with the option to return and Wendell was inactive. Andrews was named to the Patriots’ 2015 53-man roster. Through Week 10, Andrews played in every snap in the first half of the season, starting every game.

Despite not being chosen for the 2016 Pro Bowl, Andrews placed in the top two in the positional fan voting. Andrews’ modest salary and high snap count led to a performance-based pay incentive of $237,427.11, the second-highest of any Patriot in 2015. (after cornerback Malcolm Butler).

Bryan Stork was a rival for the starting center position in 2016, but Andrews finally prevailed, forcing Stork to be let go by the organization. For the Patriots, he started each of the team’s 16 regular-season games, helping the offensive line to a 14-2 record. The Patriots trailed 28-3 late in the third quarter before mounting a comeback to win by a score of 34-28 in Super Bowl LI, the first overtime game and the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history. Andrews started.

Andrews extended his three-year deal with the Patriots through the 2020 campaign on May 12, 2017. A $1.6 million signing bonus and an extra $2.1 million in incentives are added to the $9.6 million base value of the agreement. Andrews received his first-ever captaincy assignment with the Patriots on September 5, 2017. The Patriots Super Bowl LII loss to the Philadelphia Eagles was one of the 19 games that Andrews started for the team.

For the Patriots in 2018, Andrews once more began each of the team’s 16 games at center. After the Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs, they went on to defeat the Los Angeles Rams by a score of 13-3 in Super Bowl LIII. Andrews assisted the Patriots in making their third consecutive participation in the Super Bowl. In the triumph, Andrews recovered a fumble.

Andrews’ 2019 season is in risk after it was announced on August 26th that he has a pulmonary embolism. On August 31, 2019, he was placed on indefinitely injured reserve.

In 2020, Andrews made a comeback to the Patriots’ starting lineup after sitting out all of 2019. He had surgery on his thumb, and on September 26, 2020, he was put on an injured reserve. On October 24, he became active.

Andrews renewed his four-year contract with the Patriots on March 22, 2021.
