Demarcus Lawrence has decided to remain in Dallas, where he will continue to make some local history.
According to Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the defensive end has signed a new three-year, $40 million deal with the Cowboys.
Per Pelissero reports, thirty million dollars of the forty million dollar contract are guaranteed, making Lawrence the first defensive end in the history of the NFL to have his contract guaranteed for seven consecutive seasons.
The Cowboys have never been afraid to spend a lot of money on Lawrence, who is a game-wrecking defensive end when he is healthy. During his eight seasons in the NFL, Lawrence has recorded a total of 48.5 sacks, including 25 sacks between 2017 and 2018.
Even though Dallas gave Lawrence a five-year, $105 million contract after the 2018 season, he was injured and only played in seven games that year.
The Cowboys are in a difficult cap situation and have lots of players who might be traded or released, but Dallas worked out a new agreement with Lawrence that will guarantee him 75 percent of the entire value and will likely bring some cap relief to the Cowboys.
According to Over The Cap, prior to the current deal, the amount of cap space that Lawrence was expected to account for was $27 million.
