Derek Hill is an American professional baseball center fielder for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB). Hill was drafted by the Tigers in the first round of the 2014 MLB draft, and he made his MLB debut in 2020.
Originally from Des Moines, Iowa, Hill moved to Northern California as a child to spend the summers with his father, where he played baseball for local teams.
A Sacramento native, he attended Elk Grove High School before heading to the Bay Area for college in 2012.
With 11 doubles and seven triples, as well as 30 RBIs and 29 stolen bases, he finished his senior season with a.500 batting average (47-for-94).
As part of the 2014 MLB Draft, Hill was selected by the Tigers in the first round (23rd overall). Signing bonuses of $2 million have been agreed upon by the Tigers in their pact with Hill, which was revealed June 11.
