Prior to enrolling at St. Xavier High School, he attended Holy Family Parochial and participated in football for the school’s squad. At the University of Cincinnati, he participated in collegiate football for the Cincinnati Bearcats football team.

He won the offensive player of the year award in the AAC in each of the previous two seasons, and in his last season, he helped Cincinnati reach the College Football Playoff.
He concluded his career at Cincinnati with 44 victories, which ranks third among quarterbacks in college football history, and the Bearcats had a perfect 26-0 record at home. The Atlanta Falcons selected Ridder with the 74th overall selection in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He was taken in the second round of the draft as a quarterback.
