American pitcher Devin Paul Smeltzer plays for the Minnesota Twins in Major League Baseball. He debuted in the MLB in 2019.



Smeltzer participated on the baseball team at Bishop Eustace Preparatory School in Pennsauken Township, New Jersey.

He was chosen by the San Diego Padres in the 33rd round of the MLB draft in 2014, but instead of signing with the Padres, he opted to attend Florida Gulf Coast University and play college baseball for the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles.



He pitched for the Eagles, posting a 1-4 win-loss record and a 6.19 ERA.

He participated in collegiate summer baseball in 2015 with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks of the Cape Cod Baseball League, where he pitched a nine-inning no-hitter but fell one walk short of a perfect game.

He was also named co-MVP of the league’s all-star game.

Smeltzer transferred to San Jacinto College after spending a year with the Eagles in order to be eligible for the 2016 MLB Draft.

For the baseball club at San Jacinto, Smeltzer had a 9-3 record, a 1.18 ERA, and 128 strikeouts in 91+2/3 innings pitched. After his sophomore year, he made a transfer commitment to Texas Tech University on a baseball scholarship.
