DeVonta Smith is a professional football player who plays wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League. While attending Amite High Magnet School, he participated in both basketball and football. He played college football for the University of Alabama’s Alabama Crimson Tide after finishing high school.
As a true freshman in 2017, he has eight receptions for 160 yards and three touchdowns. As a sophomore in 2018, he has had 42 receptions for 693 yards and six touchdowns. He led the Crimson Tide in receiving yards and touchdowns with 1,256 yards and 14 scores on 68 grabs. In a game in September 2018, he set career highs with 274 yards and 5 touchdowns.
He exceeded the previous SEC career record for catching touchdowns in November 2020. He shattered more than seven school receiving records while playing for Alabama. He had the option to compete in the 2021 Senior Bowl, but he declined. Smith was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles with the tenth overall choice in the 2021 NFL Draft.
On June 3, 2021, he signed a four-year, $20.1 million rookie contract with the Eagles. Smith had eight receptions for a career-high 169 yards and a score in the 24-8 victory over the Washington Commanders in Week 3 of the 2022 NFL season.
