Malcolm Butler is a cornerback for the National Football League, however he is now a free agent. He is 1.80 meters tall. He carries 86 kg. A football player at Vicksburg High School, he attended there. He was given financial aid to attend Hinds Community College.

He made 22 tackles and one interception as a freshman at Hinds in 2009, but was dismissed from the team following the fifth game of the year. He made 43 tackles, three interceptions, and 12 pass breakups as a sophomore. He began attending the University of West Alabama in 2012, where he played football for the West Alabama Tigers. There, he focused on physical education.

The New England Patriots signed Butler in May 2014 to a three-year, $1.53 million deal. He agreed to a five-year, $61 million contract with the Tennessee Titans in March 2018 that included a $30 million guarantee. He agreed to a one-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals in March 2021. He made the decision to retire in August 2021 for personal reasons.

On the same day, the Cardinals placed Butler on the reserve/retired list. The Cardinals formally released him in February 2022. Coming out of retirement, he inked a two-year deal with the New England Patriots in March 2022. On August 16, 2022, he was placed on injured reserve. In 2022, on August 25, he was freed.
