DQ Thomas is a linebacker with the New York Jets. After failing to choose a linebacker with one of their seven picks in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Jets acted swiftly to add one by signing DQ Thomas of Middle Tennessee State as an undrafted free agency.
Thomas wasn’t the talk of the pre-draft as a small school star, but he possesses the abilities to push for a spot on the linebacker depth chart in New York.
Quincy Williams is the overwhelming favorite to start at strong-side linebacker, while Jamien Sherwood and Hamsah Nasirildeen will battle it out for the weak-side position.
C.J. Mosley has already committed to playing as the middle linebacker. Additionally, there are Marcell Harris and Del’Shawn Phillips, but there are still open spots on the roster.
At Oxford High School in Mississippi, Thomas was well-known for his prowess on the football field. As a senior, he was recognized with both all-state and all-region honors. Additionally, he was active in the weight room. Of course, Thomas lettered in powerlifting, as do all football players.
Thomas played for Middle Tennessee State for five seasons, leaving the program with his name permanently inscribed in the records. Thomas is tied for third all-time with 20.5 sacks and leads the school in tackles for loss with 53 career tackles for loss.
Thomas’ final year at Middle Tennessee State turned out to be his best. Thomas had a banner 2021, recording a career-high 54 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, and 2 interceptions. Along with those accomplishments, he added five sacks, three passes defended, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble, and a defensive touchdown.
Thomas received a substantial undrafted free agency contract from the Jets Thomas received $130,000 in guaranteed payment from New York. Thomas was still able to make a good living as an undrafted free agent.
DQ Thomas has never divulged any information about his parents, he is a very private person who likes to keep his personal life away from media attention.
