Eric Lauer Contract, Salary and Net Worth

Eric Lauer

The San Diego Padres selected Eric Lauer as the 25th overall pick in the 2016 amateur draft out of Kent State University.

Eric was the Padres’ third first-round pick that year, following Cal Quantrill (#8) and Hudson Potts (#24) in Compensation Round A.

His selection compensated for the loss of Ian Kennedy due to free agency. When he made his major league debut with the Padres on April 24, 2018, Eric became the first player from the first round to do so, having only been preceded by third-rounder Austin Hays.

Lauer finished 6-7, 4.34 in 23 starts and 112 innings as a rookie. In 2019, he went 8-10 with a 4.45 ERA in 30 games.

His 149 2/3 innings ranked second on the Padres’ staff, trailing only Joey Lucchesi, while his 138 strikeouts ranked third, trailing only Lucchesi and rookie Chris Paddack.

The starting rotation was made up primarily of first and second-year players, and the young pitchers’ inability to pitch deep into games was a recurring issue.
