Having played college football at UTEP, Eric Tomlinson previously turned up for the Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Texans, New York Jets, New England Patriots, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders and Baltimore Ravens.

Tomlinson attended the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana, along with 19 other tight ends from colleges. He had an average overall performance, placing tenth in the bench press and ninth in his position group in the 40-yard dash.
