Having played college football at UTEP, Eric Tomlinson previously turned up for the Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Texans, New York Jets, New England Patriots, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders and Baltimore Ravens.

On December 11, 2014, it was revealed that Tomlinson and teammate Jameill Showers had accepted their invitations to participate in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. He participated in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl on January 17, 2015, as a member of Mike Holmgren’s American squad, which was defeated 17-0.

Tomlinson attended the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana, along with 19 other tight ends from colleges. He had an average overall performance, placing tenth in the bench press and ninth in his position group in the 40-yard dash.

On December 22, 2020, Tomlinson was elevated to the active roster while playing for the Baltimore Ravens. Tomlinson and the Ravens agreed to a one-year contract extension on February 10, 2021.

Tomlinson was fired on August 31, 2021, but resigned the next day. On November 1st, 2021, he was let go and re-signed to the practice squad. Tomlinson was added to the active roster on November 11, 2021.
