Ezequiel Tovar Contract, Salary and Net Worth

Ezequiel Tovar

Tovar has been pushed quite aggressively after signing with the Rockies for $800,000 in August 2017.

Tovar advanced from rookie to short-season ball in 2019 after playing well on his debut in the Dominican Summer League in 2018.

During the pandemic, he was stuck in Arizona for about 18 months, playing well at instructs, making his full-season debut, and earning a promotion to High-A in 2021 before finishing up in the Arizona Fall League, where he showed glimpses of what he could become and what he still needs to work on before finally being able to return home to Venezuela.

Tovar is unquestionably capable of playing defense in the major leagues right now. He’s the best defender in the system, with his actions at the premium position demonstrating ease of operation.

He regularly makes the basic and showy plays, with exceptional movements, footwork, and a good arm he saves for when he needs it. He’s proved he can switch to second base if necessary, but he has Gold Glove potential at short.

Tovar, who will be 20 for the majority of the 2022 season, continues to develop muscle to his physique, which has resulted in an improved ability to drive the ball at all stops.

He still needs to work on his aggressive approach, and he did chase pitches out of the zone more at High-A and the AFL, but he was also very young for those levels at the time.

He’s currently on the 40-man roster and, once ready, could be the Rockies’ everyday shortstop for a long time.
