The Venezuela native was signed by the Phillies in 2016 at the age of 16 for a reported $900,000 and played in the Florida Instructional League that year.

The following year, he made his regular-season minor league debut with the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Phillies, earning a 3-2 record in 10 games with a 3.05 ERA, a.225 batting average against, and a 9.6 K/9 rate (nine starts).

The 6-foot-4, 185-pounder was promoted to the Class A short-season New York-Penn League in 2018. Morales had a 4-5 record with a 5.27 ERA, a.244 batting average against, and a 10.9 K/9 rate in 13 starts for Williamsport.

In 27 appearances with the Class A Lakewood BlueClaws in 2019, the promising pitcher went 1-8 with a save, a 3.82 ERA, a.226 batting average against, and a 12.0 K/9 mark.

The 22-year-old’s includes a 95-96 mph fastball, a fantastic slider that dips down and away from right-handed batters, and a greatly improved change up.

Morales uses that menu to force the opposition to take a number of swings and misses.
