Garrett Patrick Stubbs is a Major League Baseball catcher for the Philadelphia Phillies in the United States. He formerly played for the Houston Astros in Major League Baseball.



Stubbs played college baseball for the University of Southern California Trojans, receiving the 2015 Johnny Bench Award as the top collegiate catcher in the country.

Stubbs was drafted in the eighth round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Astros. In 2019, he made his major league debut.



Stubbs is Jewish, and he was one of four Jewish MLB players to compete in the 2021 World Series, a record.

Garrett and his younger brother C. J. were both active kids who started playing baseball at a young age and also participated in music, art competitions, and theater.

Stubbs’ father established a touring squad for local youngsters to continue their development outside of the Little League season when he was a child.

Stubbs’ stepfather, Fred Shuey, was a successful college baseball player, and Shuey arranged for a young Stubbs to train his technique with former Major League Baseball (MLB) catcher Ed Herman.

For Torrey Pines High School, both Stubbs brothers were apprehended.

His younger brother C. J., who went to Torrey Pines and USC with Stubbs, was drafted in the 10th round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Astros and has mostly played catcher and first base in the minors.

During the offseason, Stubbs lives in California with Matt Chapman, the former Oakland Athletics third baseman who currently plays for the Toronto Blue Jays.
