Sánchez signed as an international free agent with the New York Yankees in July 2009, getting a $3 million signing bonus. He made his professional debut with the Gulf Coast Yankees. Despite playing in only 53 games, Sánchez had a record-breaking rookie debut in 2016, ranking second in Rookie of the Year voting.

Baseball America listed him as the Yankees’ seventh-best prospect prior to the 2010 season. On August 18, 2010, he was upgraded to the Staten Island Yankees of the New York–Penn League’s Class A-Short Season. In 47 games, he hit.329/.393/.543, including eight home runs and 43 runs batted in (RBIs).

Sánchez was traded to the Minnesota Twins on March 13, 2022, along with Gio Urshela, for Josh Donaldson, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and Ben Rortved.

Yes, Sanchez has two daughters with his wife, Sahaira. Sánchez attributes his metamorphosis from a player who was “going through the motions” early in his professional career to one who is praised for his work ethic to his daughter’s birth.
