George Fant

In American football, George Fant is an offensive lineman with the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL).

He played basketball and football while he was a student at Western Kentucky University. He was signed by the Seattle Seahawks in 2016 as an undrafted free agent. In 2018, Seattle started using Fant as a hybrid tight end on plays that qualified for tackles.

In the second game of the 2017 preseason, Fant tore his ACL, ruining his season. He entered the injured reserve on September 2, 2017.

Fant started to perform the duties of both an offensive lineman and a tight end in week four after rookie tight end Will Dissly was hurt during a game against the Arizona Cardinals.

When lining up as the sixth offensive lineman, either inside the line or outside, he would designate himself a qualified receiver.

Fant was excellent in this new role, which enabled the Seahawks to have the best rushing offense in the league for the 2018 season.

On December 10, 2018, during a Monday Night Football game against the Minnesota Vikings in week 13, Fant caught his first career reception, a 9-yard pass from quarterback Russell Wilson.

Fant continued to work for the Seahawks as a hybrid lineman in 2019. During a portion of the season, he filled in for an injured Duane Brown as the starter’s primary backup offensive lineman.

On December 2, 2019, during a Monday Night Football game against the Minnesota Vikings, Fant garnered headlines as he helped the Seahawks rush for a season-high 218 yards in a 37-30 victory.

He lined up along the line in a number of different spots during the course of the game, and he was listed as an eligible receiver on 42 plays.

George Fant and Chastity Gooch are parents of two kids. His second son was born in the spring of 2017, and his son Jayden Fant was born just before his Seahawks practice.
