George Karlaftis, a defensive end, is a member of the National Football League’s Kansas City Chiefs. He is 1.93 m tall and weighs 119 kg. During his time as a student and a football player at West Lafayette Junior-Senior High School, he recorded 41 sacks. He was named Defensive Player of the Year for his participation in the 2019 U.S. Army All-American Game.
In January 2019, he enrolled at Purdue after finishing high school early. During his time at Purdue, he played football for the Purdue Boilermakers. He participated in spring practice and started all 12 games as a true freshman, finishing third on the team with 54 tackles and 7.5 sacks.
He only played in three games as a sophomore in 2020 because to a positive COVID-19 result, finishing the year with four tackles and two sacks. He was selected for the Academic All-Big Ten Second Team and teams. In addition to two single stops and a sack against Iowa on October 24, he had three tackles for the season. He recorded another sack at Illinois on October 31.
After posting 4.5 sacks in 2021, he declared his intention to pursue the NFL Draft in 2022. In the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Karlaftis with the thirty-first overall pick.
