George Kirby Height: How Tall Is George Kirby?

George Joseph Kirby is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Seattle Mariners.

Kirby grew up in Westchester County, New York, as a New York Yankees fan and attended Rye High School in Rye, where he played baseball and basketball.

He threw 153 pitches in the NYSPHSAA Section 1 Class A championship game against Lakeland High School as a sophomore baseball player in 2014. 



Elon University began pursuing him to play college baseball in 2014. 

He was named to the New York State Sportswriters Association’s All-State First Team for Class A pitchers and first basemen after his junior season in 2015, as well as The Journal News Westchester/Putnam All-Star First Team alongside Josiah Gray.

He was chosen to the All-State First Team again as a senior in 2016, going 6–0 with a 0.32 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 43+13 innings.

Despite being projected to be a first-round pick in the 2016 Major League Baseball draft, he was selected in the 32nd round by the New York Mets due to signability issues.

 

He did not sign with the Mets, instead opting to attend Elon University and play collegiate baseball with the Elon Phoenix.

Kirby pitched in 16 games (five starts) as a freshman at Elon in 2017, posting a 1–3 record and a 4.84 ERA while striking out 55 batters in 61+ 13 innings.

The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) honored him to its All-Rookie Team. Kirby appeared and started in 15 games as a sophomore, finishing 10–3 with a 2.89 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 90+ 13 innings.
