Otto went to Tomball, Texas’ Concordia Lutheran High School.  He went to Rice University to play collegiate baseball after going undrafted out of high school in 2014.



Otto was selected in the fifth round of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft by the New York Yankees and signed for a $320,000 signing bonus.

Otto pitched for the Gulf Coast Yankees and the Staten Island Yankees in his professional debut season in 2017, finishing 3–0 with a 1.35 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 20 innings.

He pitched for the Charleston RiverDogs last season, going 1–1 with a 3.48 ERA with 8 strikeouts in 10+13 innings pitched.

Otto missed the whole 2018 season due to a blood clot in his shoulder.

Otto pitched for the GCL Yankees and the Tampa Tarpons in 2019, going 3–3 with a 3.23 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 61+13 innings. Otto played in the Arizona Fall League for the Surprise Saguaros after the 2019 season.

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the Minor League Baseball season was canceled in 2020, and Otto was unable to play any games.

In his first season with the Somerset Patriots in 2021, he went 6–3 with a 3.17 ERA and 103 strikeouts in 65+ innings.

He had a 1–0 record with a 4.35 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 10+13 innings after being promoted to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on July 13.

Otto was traded to the Texas Rangers on July 29, 2021, along with Josh Smith, Ezequiel Durán, and Trevor Hauver, for Joey Gallo and Joely Rodrguez.

Following the trade, he was assigned to the Round Rock Express of the Triple-A West, where he went 2–1 with a 2.70 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 20 innings.

 

Texas picked his contract and promoted him to the major leagues on August 27, and he made his MLB debut against the Houston Astros that night. He pitched five scoreless innings in his debut, striking out seven batters.
