Allen was a student at Chula Vista’s Hilltop High School. He subsequently went on to San Diego State University, where he played three seasons of collegiate baseball for the Aztecs. In 2013, he was a member of the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League’s summer collegiate baseball team.
Allen was drafted in the sixth round of the 2014 MLB draft by the Cleveland Indians. Allen was sent to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers after signing with Cleveland and spent the whole season there, batting.244 with 19 runs batted in (RBIs) and 30 stolen bases in 57 games.
In 123 games with the Lake County Captains in 2015, he batted.273/.368/.382 with seven home runs, 45 RBIs, and 43 stolen bases.
The Pittsburgh Pirates claimed Allen off waivers on November 5, 2021.
