He has 53 receptions for 722 yards and nine touchdowns while playing eight games as a redshirt freshman in 2017. He recorded 89 receptions for 1,078 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2018 as a redshirt sophomore. Due to his two punt return touchdowns, he was awarded an All-American as a return specialist.

Dortch signed a free agent contract with the New York Jets as an undrafted player after the 2019 NFL Draft was over. He was added to the Carolina Panthers’ active roster by the Panthers in October 2019 after being signed off the Jets’ practice squad. He joined the practice squad of the Los Angeles Rams in December 2019.

He was released on August 31, 2021, and the practice squad re-signed him the following day. The 25th of December saw his promotion to the active roster. In his final five outings and two starts, he caught three passes for a total of fifteen yards.
