James Griffin Jax is a professional baseball pitcher from the United States who currently plays for the Minnesota Twins in Major League Baseball.

He made his MLB debut in 2021. In addition to that, he has the rank of officer in the reserve component of the United States Air Force.

Cherry Creek High School, located in Greenwood Village, Colorado, was Jax’s alma mater. He finished his senior year in 2013 with a record of 7-1 and a 1.74 earned run average, earning him the title of Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year in Colorado.



In the 12th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball draft, the Philadelphia Phillies selected him, but he did not sign with them. Instead, he enrolled at the United States Air Force Academy and played college baseball for the Air Force Falcons.

 

During his first two years at the Air Force Academy, Jax had a difficult time on the mound. He posted an earned run average of 5.86 as a freshman and 5.17 as a sophomore.

His breakout season came as a junior in 2016, when he started 15 games and posted a 9–2 record with a school-record 2.05 ERA.

He also had 90 strikeouts and only 10 walks in 105 and one-third innings pitched. Alongside Jimmy Lambert, he was awarded the title of Co-Pitcher of the Year by the Mountain West Conference.
