He is an American football kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL).
The Traditional Latin Mass at his local parish is occasionally officiated by Harrison Butker, a Roman Catholic who was born on July 14, 1995.
Butker has openly denounced Traditionis custodes, alleging that he and other Catholics who appreciate tradition are subject to “persecution” within the Church.
To reverse the Kansas Supreme Court’s 2019 ruling that the state constitution guarantees the right to an abortion, Butker supported the Kansas Value Them Both Amendment in 2022.
Butker attended The Westminster Schools, where he participated in football as a rising sophomore after taking up the sport.
He kicked a field goal that was 53 yards further than the previous school record. He participated in basketball, football, and soccer as a three-sport athlete, earning three state soccer titles.
He also served as the first-chair tuba player for the school’s (upperclassman) symphonic band all four years. He played college football at Georgia Tech.
Butker was chosen by the Carolina Panthers with the 233rd overall pick in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
He was chosen as the third and final kicker in 2017. Butker and the Panthers agreed to a four-year, $2.48 million contract on May 5, 2017, which also included a $83,112 signing bonus. On September 14, 2017, he was released, and the following day, he was added to the practice squad.
