Minnesota Vikings

The Minneapolis-based Minnesota Vikings play professional American football. They participate in the National Football Conference North division of the National Football League. The squad was founded in 1960 as an expansion team and started competition the following year.

The squad played its home games at Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington’s suburb from 1961 to 1981. From 1961 to 1965, the Vikings held their summer training camp at Bemidji State University. The squad relocated their training facility to Minnesota State University in Mankato in 1966. The team’s golden era history included the training camp at Minnesota State, which was one of the longest-running training camp activities in the NFL.

From 1982 through 2013, the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis served as the Vikings’ home field. On December 29, 2013, the Vikings played their final game at the Metrodome and won 14-13 over the Detroit Lions to end the season. After suffering a 37-10 defeat to the Green Bay Packers in Week 17, the Vikings missed the playoffs for the second consecutive year in 2021. In Week 18, the team defeated the Chicago Bears 31-17 to finish the season 8-9.
