The fact that Fletcher’s career-high dWAR (Defensive Wins Above Replacement) of 2.0 placed him seventh in all of Major League Baseball is even more noteworthy.

This season, David Fletcher has played inconsistently with the Los Angeles Angels. He struggled through his first 37 games, batting.250 with a.546 OPS before suffering a hip injury and eventually being dropped to the No. 9 slot in the lineup.

A few days later, after recovering from the hip injury, he caught fire. Fletcher returned to the leadoff position, put up a 26-game hitting streak over the following 59 games, and batted.354 with an.851 OPS, and batted leadoff once more.

He has once again lost steam over the course of his last 51 games, batting.195 with a.468 OPS.

His overall worst season at the plate came in 2021. In every significant hitting metric and in the most complex statistics, he recorded career lows.

According to Jeff Fletcher of The O.C. Register, he was unable to offer much of an explanation for this beyond the irregularities that come with playing baseball
