How good is Devin Singletary?

After playing college football at Florida Atlantic University, Singletary was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. During his time at the college level, he excelled in all three of seasons.

He concluded his undergraduate career with 4,287 rushing yards and an absolutely astounding 66 rushing touchdowns, both of which are virtually impossible to believe.

Concerns were raised, though, about how much of that high production would be transferable to the NFL. For Singletary, the increase in the level of competition was the least of his concerns. His performance in the combine was disgraceful. His 40-yard dash time of 4.64 seconds was one of the slowest, despite the fact that he only weighed 203 pounds.

During his first season in the league, he was forced to share the backfield with an older player (Frank Gore) who would eventually be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

In the end, the grizzled veteran had 166 carries, while Singeltary had 151, but the rookie gained more rushing yards than his elder by more than 175 yards.

From the perspective of advanced statistics, his first season as a professional showed a lot of promise.
