It’s no secret that San Diego State UDFA Jacob Capra’s adaptability is a desirable trait for the Packers. The majority of Green Bay’s offensive linemen can switch between guard and tackle, or if they’re more of an interior player, guard and center.
The offensive line for Green Bay was hit hard by injuries last year, but they were able to keep their high level of play thanks to a large part to the versatility of the group as a whole.
Capra has been in the league long enough to have played four of the five offensive line positions, which will serve him well. While that might not land him on the active roster right away, it could keep him around for a while on the practice squad.
Capra played for Oregon for three seasons, including the 2017 and 2018 seasons. He wasn’t a starter, but he did get some action. Over those two years, he played primarily at right guard, where he surrendered four pressures and two sacks to opposing teams.
The remaining two years of Capra’s college career were spent at San Diego State after he transferred there. He started 312 snaps at right tackle and 198 at left tackle in 2019, playing both right and left tackle.
He allowed two sacks and eleven pressures on the edge that year. In 2020, he started at left guard for the majority of the season and allowed only two pressures in 233 pass-blocking snaps while facing zero sacks.
How Good Is Jacob Capra?
Capra was a better pass blocker than run blocker over the course of his career, according to PFF’s grading system. However, over 62% of his run-blocking snaps came in the zone blocking scheme, and as we all know, the Green Bay Packers use a wide-zone blocking scheme under Matt LaFleur.
Capra has demonstrated positional versatility, but his athletic testing statistics suggest that he will be most effective as an inside player at the NFL level. His 40-yard dash time of 5.34 was just above average, but his 10- and 20-yard splits were rated as “poor,” contributing to a below-average RAS score of 4.11 overall
