During the Buffalo Bills’ rookie minicamp, five different players were given the opportunity to try out for the squad. The Bills decided to provide a one-year contract to one player, Joe Giles-Harris because he impressed them sufficiently. 

Despite having a fruitful career at Duke, Giles-Harris was not selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Giles-Harris finished his collegiate career with the Blue Devils having earned a total of 313 tackles, 32.5 tackles for loss (TFL), 8.5 sacks, two interceptions, and eight passes defensed over the course of three seasons.

After the draft, Giles-Harris agreed to terms with the Jacksonville Jaguars and joined the team. Over the previous two seasons, he has spent most of his time on the team’s practice squad but has seen action in 14 games. During that time period, Giles-Harris registered a total of 23 tackles, including two tackles for loss, as well as one sack and five quarterback hits.

Based on his 2020 performance, Giles-Harris earned a 75.6 rating from Pro Football Focus. According to the analytics site, the 75.6 grade was above average.

The Bills are big fans of versatile players. Giles-Harris was instructed to become proficient in all three linebacker positions while he was in Jacksonville.

Giles-Harris hails from a sporting background. His older brother played four seasons at Gannon University, while his father John played three seasons of football at Southern Connecticut. Rather than follow in his older brother’s footsteps, J.T. Giles-Harris played lacrosse for the Blue Devils.
