Ryan Vilade was selected by Colorado in the first round of the 2017 draft, but Rockies supporters frequently consider him to have been selected in the first round.

That fall, he participated in the 18U American national team. He committed to playing baseball for the Oklahoma State Cowboys in college.
He made his professional debut with the Rookie-level Grand Junction Rockies of the Pioneer League after being signed. He hit a home run in his first at-bat, earning him a spot in the All-Star game. Throughout the entire season, he played 33 games for Grand Junction.
On September 18, 2021, Colorado selected Vilade’s contract. He was then added to the active roster so that he could play that night at Nationals Park in his debut game in Major League Baseball against the Washington Nationals.
