The Panthers are a team in the National Football Conference South division of the National Football League. Jerry Richardson was the team’s original owner and creator when it was founded in 1993 and when it first started playing in 1995.

The Panthers performed admirably in their first two seasons, going 7-9 in 1995 and 12-4 the year after, capturing the NFC West before falling to the eventual Super Bowl winner Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game. Until 2003, when they won the NFC Championship Game and advanced to Super Bowl XXXVIII, they did not have another winning season.

Despite starting the 2021 season with three victories, they completed the year with a 5-12 record and a seven-game losing streak.
