Darius Slay

Slay, a Brunswick, Georgia, native, played running back and defensive back at Brunswick High School.

In the second round (36th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions selected Slay. Slay was drafted in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft, behind Xavier Rhodes, Dee Milliner, D. J. Hayden, and Desmond Trufant.

Slay was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles on March 20, 2020, in exchange for third- and fifth-round picks in the next NFL Draft.

Slay agreed to a new three-year contract for $50 million with the Eagles, including $30 million in guarantees, along with the trade. Since Rodney McLeod already wears jersey number 23, Slay declared he would do it in tribute to Kobe Bryant.
