Atlanta is home to the Atlanta Falcons, a professional American football team. The Falcons are a team in the National Football Conference South division of the National Football League. It was founded in June of 1965.
In their 51-year history, the Falcons have called three stadiums their home; the third of those, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, opened in the late summer of 2017. The Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium was the first; it was used by the Atlanta Braves baseball team until 1991. The Georgia Dome was constructed in 1992, and the Falcons played there through the 2016 season.

The Falcons have participated in two Super Bowls; the first was Super Bowl XXXIII in 1998, which they lost to the Denver Broncos, and the second was Super Bowl LI, which they lost to the New England Patriots 34-28 in overtime. Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Falcons’ current home field, debuted for the 2017 season. The team’s offices and practice facilities are situated on a 50-acre parcel of land in Flowery Branch, Hall County, northeast of Atlanta.
