McKenzie pitched with the Arizona League Indians in 2015, his first professional season, and had a 0.75 ERA in 12 innings pitched.

McKenzie began the 2016 season with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers before being promoted to the Lake County Captains, where he pitched 83+13 innings with a total 1.62 ERA and 104 strikeouts.

McKenzie pitched for the Lynchburg Hillcats in 2017, posting a 12–6 record and a 3.46 ERA in 25 starts. He also pitched in the All-Star Futures Game that year.

He pitched for the Akron RubberDucks in 2018, finishing 7–4 with a 2.68 ERA in 90+23 innings.

McKenzie is Cleveland’s top prospect heading into the 2019 season, according to MLB Pipeline.

He missed the entire season in 2019 due to lat and pectoral muscle issues. McKenzie was added to the Indians’ 40-man roster after the season.

 

McKenzie made his major league debut on August 22, 2020, against the Detroit Tigers, striking out ten batters in six innings.

McKenzie’s ten strikeouts are the second highest by an Indians pitcher in their first major league start.
