Tim and Kris Boettger gave birth to him on October 5, 1994 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, a city in the United States. He played high school football while attending Cedar Falls High School in Cedar Falls, Iowa. At the University of Iowa, he participated in NCAA football for the Iowa Hawkeyes squad.

In April 2021, he agreed to a one-year contract with the Bills. He contracted COVID-19 and missed the most of the first two weeks of training camp in 2021, which caused a delay. Prior to being elevated to the starting left guard position in Week 8, he was initially selected as the season’s backup guard. In Week 16, he tore his Achilles, and on December 27 he was placed on injured reserve. The Bills re-signed Boettger to a one-year contract in March 2022.
