In Riverside, California, Marisnick attended Riverside Polytechnic High School. He was a standout pitcher for his high school and was projected to be a first-round pick in the upcoming Major League Baseball Draft. He struggled during showcase tournaments, and his batting average as a senior was.406, which was lower than his batting average as a sophomore and junior.

Marisnick was selected in the third round of the 2009 MLB draft by the Toronto Blue Jays. Marisnick chose to sign with the Blue Jays instead of attending Oregon, getting a $1 million signing bonus, more than double the suggested bonus for a player picked at his position.



Marisnick and Christian Yelich were promoted from the Double-A Jacksonville Suns to the major leagues on July 23, 2013. On July 26, 2013, against Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Jeff Locke, Marisnick got his first major league hit.

Is Jake Marisnick Playing?

Marisnick joined the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 6, 2022, for a one-year contract. Jake Marisnick will have surgery on his thumb, which is believed to have been hurt during a diving play in the outfield against the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 9th.

As it stands now he is not playing due to his thumb injury sustained and will be undergoing a surgical operation to ensure his speedy recovery.
