Is James Kaprielian A Rookie?

When the Yankees selected Kaprielian with the 16th overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft, he was anticipated to be a top-of-the-rotation pitcher. Injuries and the pandemic limited his 2020 campaign, though.

His major league debut came last season, when he was 27 years old and finally had an opportunity to show what he could do. Kaprielian tallied a 4.07 ERA and a 1.223 WHIP in 119.1 innings, with 123 strikeouts and 41 walks in the process.

As a rookie this year, he showed promising indicators for his future with the A’s.

The problem is that he doesn’t appear to be a future ace anymore. In no way is that to indicate that Kaprielian’s ceiling has been lowered; he still has the ability to be a reliable major league pitcher.

That doesn’t mean the A’s won’t put Kaprielian in that capacity, but You never know when you could have an opportunity to show that you still have what it takes to be a top-of-the-rotation starter, as he did back when he first came into the scene.

James Kaprielian was expected to be a starter in the middle of the rotation. ‘ If the Oakland A’s don’t pick him, he might get the chance.
