He committed to the Tennessee Titans in March 2018 to a five-year, $61 million deal with $30 million in guaranteed money. He committed to the Arizona Cardinals on a one-year deal in March 2021. For personal reasons, he made the decision to retire in August 2021.
Butler was put on the reserve/retired list by the Cardinals the same day. He was formally released by the Cardinals in February 2022. In March 2022, after coming out of retirement, he inked a two-year deal with the New England Patriots. August 16, 2022 saw the date of his injury reserve placement. On August 25, 2022, he was freed.
