Sean Robert Doolittle is an American pitcher and reliever with the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball. He was born on September 26, 1986. He had previously played for the Seattle Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, and Oakland Athletics.
Doolittle was chosen by the Athletics as a first baseman and outfielder in the first round of the 2007 MLB Draft. In 2012, he pitched in his first MLB game. In 2014 and 2018, he was an All-Star.
Doolittle was raised in New Jersey’s Tabernacle Township. He frequently went to the baseball field to practice because he lived close by. He was a pitcher in Babe Ruth baseball.
Doolittle excelled as a pitcher while attending Shawnee High School in Medford, New Jersey. Shawnee won a state title under Doolittle’s direction. Doolittle was a first baseman and starting pitcher for the University of Virginia.
Doolittle was selected by the Oakland Athletics as a first baseman and outfielder in the first round of the 2007 Major League Baseball draft, with the 41st overall pick.
On June 18, 2007, he made his professional debut, and 2009 was predicted to be the year he made his major league debut.
Sean Doolittle was called up to the major leagues for the first time on June 5, 2012. In 11 games with the Seattle Mariners in 2021, he pitched 11.1 innings and posted a 4.76 ERA with 12 strikeouts. He was traded from the Mariners to the Washington Nationals on July 16, 2017.
Doolittle agreed to a one-year deal with the Washington Nationals on March 16, 2022.
