He was born on March 23, 1995, in the United States (MLB). He had a career in Major League Baseball with the Texas Rangers. Kiner-Falefa has ancestry that may be traced back to Samoa, Hawaii, Japan, and even Europe.

On his mother’s side of the family, he is the fourth cousin once removed from Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner. His great-great-family grandmother originated in the city of Hiroshima in Japan.



During the 2013 season of the Major League Baseball Draft, the Texas Rangers selected Kiner-Falefa in the fourth round of available players.

Before being signed to the Rangers’ 40-man roster at the end of the 2017 season, he had previously played for the Arizona League Rangers, the Hickory Crawdads, and the Spokane Indians.


After beginning the 2018 campaign with the Round Rock Express, he was called up to the major leagues at the beginning of the year.

On April 10, 2018, Kiner-Falefa made his debut in the Major Leagues as his team competed against the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim.

On April 14, he hit the first home run of his professional career while playing against the Houston Astros. During his first professional season in 2018, he played in 111 games and recorded a batting line of.261/.325/.357/.682 with four home runs and 34 RBI.

He also played second base, third base, and shortstop in addition to catching. He was honoured with the American League Gold Glove Award for third basemen during the 2020 season, which was cut short due to the pandemic.
