He attended Pewaukee High School, where he played high school football. In his senior year, he won the Woodland Conference Player of the Year Award and was named to the first teams of the All-State, All-County, All-Area, and Conference defense ends teams.

On March 1, 2021, Watt and the Arizona Cardinals reached an agreement on a $28 million, two-year contract with $23 million in guarantees.
