He attended Hamilton Christian Academy and played baseball for the school’s baseball team. He eventually attended McNeese State University, where he played baseball for the McNeese State Cowboys. After completing his college studies, he was chosen by the San Diego Padres in the supplemental first round of the Major League Baseball draft in 2011.
He signed a contract with a $624,600 signing bonus after deciding to join them. That year, Jace made his professional debut with the Eugene Emeralds.
