He participated in collegiate football for the University of South Dakota’s South Dakota Coyotes squad. He played linebacker for the final seven games of the season as a freshman in 2017 while also participating on special teams.

In that time, he made 11 tackles, 2.5 of which were for a loss. He was one of the 10 Coyotes who started each of the team’s 11 games in 2018, earning CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition. He had two pass breakups, one forced fumble, one recovery, and he was second on the team in tackles.

During the 2019 season, he served as the team’s captain and was selected as one of 53 athletes for the FCS Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star Team. In May 2022, while still an undrafted free agent, Cochrane agreed to a contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. On August 30, 2022, he was let go, and later that day, he was cut off the practice squad. On September 13, 2022, he was incorporated onto the Chiefs’ active player list.
