He played collegiate football for the South Dakota Coyotes squad at the University of South Dakota. He played linebacker, on special teams, and in the final seven games of the 2017 season as a freshman. He made 11 tackles during that time, including 2.5 for losses.
He was one of the 10 Coyotes to start every one of their 11 games in 2018, earning him CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. He had the second-most tackles on the team, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, one recovery, and one.
He was chosen as one of 53 athletes to the FCS Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star Team and served as the team’s captain in 2019. He led the club with two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. In 2020 and 2021, he was one of 15 Coyotes to start every game. He ended as the team’s fourth-leading tackler with 28 stops.
Also, he hurried the quarterback twice and broke up a pass. Cochrane signed a contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in May 2022 as an undrafted free agent. He was released on August 30, 2022, and the next day he was added to the practice squad. He was added to the Chiefs’ list of active players on September 13, 2022.
