He graduated from Santa Fe Christian High. He played collegiate football for the Stanford Cardinal football team at Stanford University after graduating from high school. He once beat the Stanford record for the longest punt with an 84-yarder.

He punted 185 times during a four-year span, with a team-best average punt distance of 43.8 yards. Two of his three All-Pac-12 honors for the team’s All-Academic list were honorable mentions. The New England Patriots selected him in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

In 2019, he agreed to a $4 years and $2,808,980 deal with the New England Patriots of the National Football League. He will, however, earn $3,986,000 in 2022 as a result of his 2021 Pro Bowl selection. The AFC Special Teams Player of the Week award was given to him on September 25, 2019. In Week 11, he was awarded Special Teams Player of the Week by the American Football Conference once more.
