He completed Santa Fe Christian High School. After graduating from high school, he played collegiate football for the Stanford Cardinal football team at Stanford University. He once recorded an 84-yard punt, the longest in Stanford history.

Over the course of four years, he punted 185 times, averaging 43.8 yards per attempt to lead the team in punt average. He got three All-Pac-12 distinctions in total, including two honorable mentions for Pac-12 All-Academic recognition. He was chosen by the New England Patriots in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

He signed a 4-year, $2,808,980 contract with the New England Patriots of the National Football League in 2019. But because he was chosen for the Pro Bowl in 2021, he will be paid $3,986,000 in 2022. On September 25, 2019, he was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. He received the American Football Conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week award once more in Week 11.

When he was selected for the first team of the 2020 AP All-Pro in January 2021, he became the first punter for the Patriots to receive such honors. In August 2022, Bailey and the Patriots reached an agreement on a four-year, $13.5 million contract extension through the 2025 season.
